چکیده

This article presents a number of psycho-acoustic experiments for assessing the importance of phase information regarding the spatial qualities of synthesized sounds from voiced instruments. Binaural recorded sounds are synthesized using additive analysis/synthesis with and without phase information. The phase information is used in the synthesis to preserve the characteristics of the waveform. The experiments show the importance of phase when dealing with localization of voiced instruments. The phase information is shown to be crucial for determining the direction of the sound. Furthermore, it is observed that the test person’s ability to perceive the spatial qualities of the sounds is not dependent on fundamental frequency when synthesis is done with phase information, and indications are given that the attack part of the sound has limited influence on spatial perception.

Phase models in analysis/synthesis of voiced sounds

This article presents an overview of the problems involved in modeling the phase in analysis/synthesis of voiced sounds. A number of informal experiments for monaural sounds are presented, demonstrating the problems and possible improvements to these kinds of systems. Furthermore, a number of psycho-acoustic experiments are presented, for assessing the importance of phase information regarding ...

Phase modeling of instrument sounds based on psycho acoustic experiments

This article presents a number of preliminary psycho-acoustic experiments for assessing the importance of phase preservation in monaural recorded sounds from music instruments and singing voice. The experiments are based on additive analysis/synthesis to control the phase as a parameter independent of amplitude and frequency. The experiments shows that phase is an important perceptual parameter...

Investigation of the effect of phosphate on the physical and microstructural properties of synthetic calcium aluminate cement

The aim of this study was to investigate the synthesis of calcium aluminate cement with and without phosphate additive by combustion synthesis. After preparing the gel from a solution containing aluminum and calcium nitrates and glycine fuel and ammonium dihydrogen Phosphate, its combustion was performed at 400 ° C.  X-ray diffraction pattern and thermal analysis of the combustion sample showed...

Efficient coding of spectrotemporal binaural sounds leads to emergence of the auditory space representation

To date a number of studies have shown that receptive field shapes of early sensory neurons can be reproduced by optimizing coding efficiency of natural stimulus ensembles. A still unresolved question is whether the efficient coding hypothesis explains formation of neurons which explicitly represent environmental features of different functional importance. This paper proposes that the spatial ...

A spatialized additive synthesizer

In virtual auditory environments, sound generation is typically based on a two-stage approach: synthesizing a monophonic signal, implicitly equivalent to a point source, and simulating the acoustic space. The directivity, spatial distribution and position of the source can be simulated thanks to signal processing applied to the monophonic sound. A one-stage synthesis/spatialization approach, ta...
